Position Overview: This position will be responsible for providing leadership to the Agri-Business Underwriting team and working with our Broker partners to provide insurance solutions that will meet the evolving needs of our Agri-Business consumers. You will provide guidance and support to the Agri-Business Underwriting team and manage the day to day operations of the team.

Responsibilities Include:

Reporting to the Manager of Underwriting, your responsibilities will include: Act as a role model, including coaching, mentoring, motivating and developing the team to ensure achievements of goals and objectives; Change leadership;; embrace change, lead the implementation of change within the team; Manage personnel issues; absenteeism, including time off requests, performance development, recruiting, ensuring a supportive working environment to promote high team performance, positive employee morale and a high level of customer satisfaction; Conduct team meetings, prepare reports for the manager; Participate in projects and committee work and act as a key liaison with other departments; Consistent demonstration of superior customer service. Build strong relations with broker partners. Assist in the development of innovative insurance solutions for agri-business clients. Provide auto and property technical underwriting expertise in the Agricultural and Commercial lines of business. Manage a profitable portfolio of agri-business accounts. Consistently demonstrate strong communication, decision making and negotiation skills. Participate in industry and agriculture related PR events, including trade shows. Keep current on industry and market trends as they pertain to agri-business. Collaborate and work in alignment with Business Development team members. Ensure a safe and healthy work environment by complying with health and safety policies, standard practices and programs in keeping with Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.

First and foremost, the successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge and interest in farming and agri-business and possess a natural desire to provide exceptional customer service through his/her energy, enthusiasm and initiative. In addition, we are looking for the following qualifications:

  • College Diploma or University Degree in a related discipline
  • CIP/FCIP designation or actively pursuing
  • Minimum 5-7 years of agricultural underwriting or brokerage experience.
  • Commercial underwriting experience would be an asset.
  • Recent experience in a supervisory and/or leadership role would be an asset.
  • Ability to lead, coach and develop a team focused on continuous improvement, efficient processes and excellent service levels.
  • Able to work effectively and harmoniously within the team and with external stakeholders.
  • Detail oriented and well organized professional, with strong analytical decision making and negotiation skills.
  • Innovative thinking skills;
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment and deal with deadline pressures.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Self-starter with excellent organizational, time management and project management skills.
  • Ability to create and sustain positive team spirit and a constructive working environment.
