Canada Connex is looking for volunteers to join us May 2017 in Sri Lanka! Sri Lanka experience is a four week trip of a lifetime. First spend 16 days traveling through the rich cultural landscapes of this island; you will visit temples, tea factories, national parks, and even an elephant sanctuary! Not to mention going on safari and relaxing on the countless gorgeous beaches that cover this amazing country. Sri Lanka is home to 6 UNESCO world heritage sites and we visit many of these on our travels! Following that we dive right into 12 days of meaningful volunteer work in the small town of Ambalangoda. Programs fee’s start at £919 and go up to £1043 for the elephant experience. This includes all your accommodations, three meals a day, transportation to and from placements and all transportation while travelling. This also includes your travel insurance and entrance fees to all the places we visit while travelling. You book your own flights, pay for your Criminal record check and visa, a little spending money and you’re good to go! The pound is so low right now it’s a great time to book and take advantage of this low exchange. The trip commences in Sri Lanka on May 6th 2017 and participants will fly home June 2nd 2017.
We offer a wide variety of volunteering options;
Teaching and Childcare projects - You will be participating in teaching programs within this community and have a chance to bond with local children. Children who can’t afford to go to private school away from home receive little to no English classes, we try to build their English language skills to give them a chance to work at a better paying job and lift their communities out of extreme poverty. We have three placements; Temple school, Tsunami Teaching project, or SUNFO Orphanage.
Medical Placement or Mental health and Psychology – Spend time in a local hospital or clinic observing doctors and learning with the local nursing staff. Gt a real behind the scenes experience of what a hospital is like in an impoverished community. This is for nursing or medical field students; they will receive a certificate of participate from the hospital and can bank volunteer hours towards their degree.
Sea Turtle Conservation – Take care of our beachside hatchery while helping out at a local conservation center. Help protect this amazing species by educating visitors while washing tanks, feeding turtles, giving them medicine and cleaning their shells! When there are new births in our hatchery we will release them to a life at sea!
Elephant Experience – Learn about this amazing species while spending your days taking care of a massive Asian elephant. Tasks include feeding, walking, washing and cleaning up after this amazing animal. Jumping into a lake and having a swim with an elephant is an experience you will treasure for life!
Construction Project – Repaint local temples, help build desks and do repairs at our school projects. If students want a more difficult construction task, a project can be created for them, such as building an offering bench for a local Buddhist temple from concrete or creating free standing structures at our orphanage projects.
