Description

Vintage 1965-67 Gibson Minuteman GA-20 RVT amp ("RV means reverb "T" means tremolo). The "20" in some literature infers 20 watts but most specs indicate it's 12.5 watts for this model.

During this time period Gibson was competing with Fender for the amplifier market and this was their loose competition to the Fender Deluxe Reverb although it was designed for quite a different feel. Whereas a Fender blackface will breakup early with distortion, Gibson designed their amps to be cleaner with a lot of headroom.

The Minuteman GA-20 RVT has two channels. Channel one is brighter and a bit cleaner than channel two which is the channel with effects. When you max the volume (labelled "loudness") on channel two, it does have some distortion but still clarity. If you want more distortion, a pedal can, of course, be employed and this amp is a good platform for pedals. Think of the direct sound as perfect for country music - perhaps with a twangy Telecaster or used for a clean, yet still ballsy, rock tone (Tom Petty-ish).

Exterior tolex is in good condition. See photo for a scuff in the grill cloth.

The 12-inch speaker is original. Hand-wired amp section is all original, no electronic modifications.

The tremolo DOES NOT FUNCTION (Reverb is good).

The tremolo frequency control knob was missing so was replaced with similar knob (not exact) for cosmetic reasons.

The foot switch is missing. It turned the effects on/off (but did not switch channels).

This is your chance to own a rare piece of history without spending a fortune.
