    Description

I offer you this beautiful piece of early vintage artwork. This is a very interesting historical document. It was found in a book dedicated to someone and it was dated 1936. The book said "Nielson C. Bridger" from Dad December 25, 1936" This coat of arms was tucked into the first page in the book and it appears to be quite old, much older than the book. This is a Neilson family Coat of Arms beautifully hand painted and along with the painting is a blazon describing each and every element of the coat of arms, crest and what they represent. Then last it says this family is of "Cringiaw" Scotland. The latin translates to "Strong, Daring and Faithful" A very intriguing piece of historical art possibly quite rare. If you are a Neilson family member or you know of a Neilson family member this would be a very important and interesting document to obtain. Even if you are not a Neilson, this is I believe a very important piece of antique art. The piece measures 22" x 18". I plan on continuing my investigation into the history of this piece and where in Scotland Cringiaw is. I could find other hand painted coats of arms on Ebay but nothing as elaborate and detailed as this piece, not even close and many of those went for over $350.00. I had the piece professionally matted and framed. Below is the wording found in the document as best I could transcribe it. "Neilson

For his Crest on a Helmet befitting his degree is placed a Wreath of his Colours thereon a right hand in Armour holding a broken Spear flowered and counter flowered with Flowers de Lis Gules. Signification of the Areas of the field being yellow is an emblem of Nobility & Grandeur of Spirit part of the Human Body is the Noblest of all Bearings as the right hand for defence in protection the Heart for Courage and Fidelity being Red shows Justice Virtue and Defence. The Crest is an Augmentation of Honor and shows the Bearer to have obtained these Areas (sp) by Fidelity Courage and Virtue. This family is of Cringiaw in Scotland.

Note: Gules – meaning – The Heraldic Colour Red

The piece is all hand painted. This is an important piece of historical art.
