This is an authentic, unrestored movie poster for the 1948 Columbia movie “The Wreck of the Hesperus.” It measures about 27” by 41”. It is NOT a reprint or a reproduction. It would be a unique and colourful addition for the wall of anyone’s home theatre. Posters of this era were to be used by theatres while a movie was playing. After that they were to be returned to the poster exchange or destroyed.

The poster shows signs of use. There is a small chip in the top edge with pin holes and a repair on the back. Since the poster was regularly folded to be shipped to different theatres there are creases. The poster is numbered 48/719. There are some numbers and writing on the back, as well.

You can pick this up in Porters Lake. I do go into northend Halifax once a week during the lunch hour and could meet you there if that is easier.

“The Wreck of the Hesperus” is a 1948 drama from Columbia Pictures starring Willard Parker and Edgar Buchanan. It is based on and named after a narrative poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

In recent years, the hobby of movie poster collecting has become a worldwide passion. Classic posters have become more appreciated as they are becoming harder to find. Over the next few years, they will become even more valuable.

Before 1980, posters were made in a variety of sizes. A one-sheet poster measures 27" x 41" - the size of a regular movie poster. An insert is 14" x 36". The artwork depicted on these is usually the same as on the one-sheet poster. Three-sheet posters are 41" x 81". This is approximately three times the size of a one-sheet. A half-sheet is printed with credits and artwork that run horizontally. I have attached a photo to show the relative size of the most popular movie poster sizes.
