Antique brass ship’s bell with wall mount
Bell is 7” high and 8” diameter at the bottom; it weighs 8 pounds.
90% certain that it is the ship’s bell from Royal Navy Motor Launch (ML) 293
ML 293 was built by Elco, the Electric Launch Company, Inc. in Bayonne, NJ, USA.
My great uncle commanded ML 293 from 22 April 1919 to 7 October 1919
ML 293 was scuttled shortly thereafter and it is my understanding that the ship’s bell was often removed prior to the ship being scuttled.
The bell was in his possession when he died in 1976 and it has been in our family since that time.
