This ‘survivor’ is a rare find, especially in perfect working condition!
Following its maritime service, I understand this searchlight was then used on a fire truck for a number of years before being stored away. We picked it up a few years ago to highlight certain trees on our former property, but now have no use for it.
The cast aluminum housing is in great shape with no cracks or corrosion. Similarly, the reflector and the glass lens are in perfect condition, as is the focal length adjustment knob (to adjust the bulb position). It is solid and works freely.
As shown in the photos, it can take an E39 base bulb (as was originally intended), or any E26 (regular) base bulb using an adapter. I have tried a 1000w ‘cob’ style LED bulb in it, but it was TOO BRIGHT!! It will take up to a 10” tall bulb, but one should respect the maximum rating of 500 watts for the unit.
The searchlight stands 24” high and has a 16” diameter base. Its Corning glass lens is 13” diameter. It rotates 360 degrees and tilts from horizontal to approximately 50 degrees above the horizon. Rotation and tilt positions are held via locking cams.
If you have a larger property (or want a conversation piece to light up your industrial loft living space for your next party), this is a fun little light to have!
