This is an antique octant from the 1750-1830 era. It is made of ebony and ivory and measures 12-1/4 inches from top to bottom. It is in good condition and fully functional. There is missing a small ivory insert on the back of the unit that likely was used to record navigation readings with a lead pencil. There are no markings as to who manufactured this unit but was likely made in London by Spencer, Browning & Co. in the 1790 - 1830 time frame.
