Cast Iron Toy Steam Shovel Digger 1561 & 1562 Early 1930s:

This dates to the early 1930s. It was my father’s.

The manufacturer is unknown, but was likely either Hubley, Arcade or Kenton. I have seen identical pieces claimed to have been made by all three. It measures 4-1/2” x 1-1/2 x 2-1/2”.

The underside of the bucket at the end of the movable shovel arm is stamped 1562, and the inside of the right side of the cab is stamped 1561. (See close up photos.)

Almost all of the dark red and silver paint is still there, with scattered chips mostly on high spots and corners. There is a bit of rust inside the base, but otherwise this piece is in terrific shape.

The two-colour paint scheme is highly unusual, I understand. The treads, shovel arm and bucket, cab interior, door and window frames, and accents are silver; the remainder is red.

Ours is a smoke-free home.
