Algonquin landscape paintings when successfully done are always spectacular.
R. Dogger, an immigrant from the Netherlands, following the teaching style of Matthew Kousal, especially in the use of his palette 'knife' technique and Kousal's subject matter as well, left the city and came over to the wilderness, to Algonquin and demonstrated like all of Kousal's students have, that even a moving scene like a raging waterfall or a burning sky can be slowed down and rendered into the particulars of a landscape.
In this painting we have a natural burning sunset like the aftermath of some explosion after the sun passed through the horizon..
The lake has already settled down for the evening and everything in the sky is falling like a curtain and we're just waiting for the stars.
This a beautiful vintage framed work from a small corner of a wonderful country. There are literally thousands of vistas, river scapes and forest scenes that can inspire us, in this tremendous park.
Frame is vintage original and really scuffed. The painting is in very good condition, ready to hang.
