Algonquin landscape paintings when successfully done are always spectacular.
R. Dogger, an immigrant from the Netherlands, following the teaching style of Matthew Kousal, especially in the use of his palette 'knife' technique and Kousal's subject matter as well, took to the wilds and demonstrates like all of Kousal's students have, that even a moving scene like a raging waterfall can be slowed down and rendered in the particulars of a landscape.
In this painting we have been given a moment from the life of a river along with the scenery that surrounds this singular event.
Here the forest landscape is at rest surrounding the waterfall, like guardians to an event, and their presence only heightens the noise and movement of the river itself.
This a beautiful vintage framed work from a small corner of a wonderful country. There are literally thousands of vistas, river scapes and forest scenes that can inspire us, in this tremendous park.
Frame is vintage original and scuffed. The painting is in very good condition, ready to hang.
