The Hudson River School was a mid-19th century American art movement embodied by a group of landscape painters whose aesthetic vision was influenced by romanticism. The paintings for which the movement is named depict the Hudson River Valley and the surrounding area, including the Catskill, Adirondack, and the White Mountains.

What is so curious about this movement from that time is that 90% of the works were unsigned.

This is a gentle, quiet and atmospheric landscape rather than the 'sublime', or luminous paintings of the great names from that movement. It's a peaceful scene nearing sunset with two paddlers in a canoe heading towards their camp under a changing sky.

The canvas has no tears or holes but it's thin enough to let light through if held up to the light. The canvas though old is in good condition.

This antique paintings is one of the better works I've come across and the frame is quite ornate for a folk art painting which usually has a basic frame. This original frame is in good condition and is quite attractive to hang as is.
