Lance Russwurm born 1953 in Kitchener, Ontario is for my money the John Wayne of Mennonite Painters. His works are rugged, action based and ruggedly charming. He tends to specialize in historical and mechanical subject matter like trains, airplanes, vehicles, buildings, etc.
In the 1990's Russwurm was commissioned by the South Easthope Mutual Insurance Company to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Village of Tavistock, Ontario, (founded in 1848). Lance being a well-known local painter made a series of four paintings to commemorate the village. This is one of a numbered copy of his work from that time, (53/250).
Tavistock, a pleasant village just south-east of Stratford, Ontario also was home to another well-known local painter, Reginald Franklin Selfe (1888-1960). (I have two examples of Selfe's work listed with Kijiji).
Both Russwurm and Reginald Selfe are listed Canadian artists and enjoy a worldwide reputation for their works. Russwurm being a Mennonite painter along with the likes of Peter Snyder and along with Reginald Selfe are beloved not only here in Canada but worldwide in Europe, the Philippines and the U.S.
This painting has a team of horses pulling bags of grain from the Tavistock Miller's Grain Dealer, a milling company situated on the main street of Tavistock. The scene seems to be taking place around the year 1916, evidenced by the 'horseless' carriage behind the mill wagon. The date on the Library reads 1916 and appears to be newly built.

Both Print and frame are in excellent condition and ready to hang.
