Heinz Pundleider (1925 - 1982) born in Salzburg, Austria immigrated to Canada in 1951 and settled in Niagara Falls, later moving to Ottawa where he lived until his passing.

He is a listed Canadian artist with his works represented with the Winnipeg Art Gallery, the National Gallery of Canada and the Art Gallery of Ontario.

He had a large farm between North Gower and Smith's Falls and had a keen interest in horses. He is represented in private and public collections in Europe, the U.S.A., South America and privately in Canada by then Governor-General and Mrs. Edward Schreyer and many others.

Known for his landscapes and floral paintings he held his first solo show at the art gallery in the St. Laurent Shopping Centre, Ottawa in 1969.

Viewing his work in 1974 Max Palmer writing in The Clarion noted, "I have never seen so many, or so good painting scenes from around the Ottawa valley, local scenes and scenes from the east coast of Canada. There are scenes that have been captured on canvas that will never be able to be seen in reality again.

Heinz has captured these and many more of the local landscapes in his painting, the old mill at Manotick makes you feel that you are standing on the bridge and looking up river at this old landscape. Someday this too will be gone, but not in the painting that Heinz has painted."

He loved the beautiful scenes around the Ottawa Valley, the Laurentians and the Muskoka area. On his field trips he sketched and painted landscapes, old farms and flowers, trying to capture nature's beauty. He has developed his own unique style of painting combing brush work and the palette knife to realistically portray his subjects.

The matt has loosened inside the vintage frame but the painting is in excellent condition.
