Jean Johnson born 1924 in England, educated at a Waldorf School that emphasized art appreciation and the development of individual creativity. She emigrated to Canada in 1956.
This artistic foundation was enhanced through further studies and artist work shops. While preferring to work on location, her sketches and photographs are used in the studio. Watercolour and oil are Jean's primary choice of the mediums in which she is fluent.
Port Stanley has long been a source of her inspiration, and her work has shown widely throughout Elgin and Middlesex County galleries and shows. Her works are similar to another listed artist from the area, whom I admire, John Harvey who covers the area and whose style is quite comparable to that of Jean.
She is a listed Canadian artist represented by the National Gallery of Canada - Library and Archives / Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography.
In the most personal way these country fields are the heart of her. The shape of the opening is heart like, looking through the 'key hole' of her heart into the countryside. The colors are a warm browns and darker greens; the radiance of summer as she looks across the fields at the farm in the distance.
