Muscle Car Colour History - charger, Road Runner, & Super Bee - Color History of All The Great Dodge and Plymouth B-Body Muscle Cars - by Paul A. Herd and Mike Mueller
Chrysler's B-Body muscle cars had all the subtlety of a heavyweight boxer. Shockingly fast despite their size, a Charger, Road Runner, or super Bee's big-block punch left its competition reeling.
Big cars with big engines neatly summarizes Chrysler's formula for muscle car success. Though classified as mid-size cars, B-bodys dwarfed their pony car challengers. And with optional 426 HEMI's or 440 Six Packs lurking beneath the hoods, motiviation was never an issue.
Despite the HEMIs dominance of NASCAR ovals and drag strips, Chrysler didn't really have strong street venue for its premier performance engine. That changed in 1966 with the introduction of the sleek, fastback Charger. chrysler really hit its stride in 1968 with the handsomely restyled charger and the high-performance, low cost Road Runner.
Charger, road Runner, and Super Bee features more than 120 colour and black and white photgraphs tracing the B-body's history from its Dodge coronet / Plymouth Belvedere roots through the 1968 -1971 glory years. to its last gasp in the late 1970's. detailed model descriptions, production specifications, race history, and interviews with Chrysler engineers and stylists combine to tell the story of doge and plymouth's most famous boulevard brawlers.
A detailed tribute to the hottest performers of the musclecar era! Chrysler's B-bodies and their huge engines and mid-size bodies made pony cars like the Mustang seem small in comparison. This volume traces the B-body's history from its Dodge Coronet/Plymouth Belvedere roots, through the 1968-1971 glory years, to its last gasp in the late 1970s. Includes engineering background, technical specs, and model details, plus interviews with Chrysler designers and engineers.
