Things you should know about buying or adopting a pet

While pet sellers can be reputable individuals or breeders who treat their animals well, the ease of selling pets over the Internet also makes it attractive to careless, irresponsible breeders and scammers. To protect yourself, you must be careful and believe only what you see and not what you are told. It is highly recommended to arrange for an inspection of the home where the pets are bred. This allows you to check that the mother and other animals are living in suitable conditions, being well cared for, and are in good health.

Remember that the Kijiji Pets section is NOT intended to facilitate uncontrolled breeding, irresponsible commercial pet trading, trade of dogs or any other animal for the purpose of fighting or stud services. Any ads that are suspected of promoting this kind of activity or reported to us will be removed. Users are responsible for adhering to the applicable conditions in relation to adopting, buying, selling or listing of an ad on Kijiji.

Kijiji encourages, where possible, the adoption of pets and encourages all pet owners to have their animals spayed or neutered as well as microchipped.

When looking for a pet, it is important to meet the breeder or seller and examine the pet before agreeing to anything. Since Kijiji is local to your community, this should be easy to arrange. Never adopt/buy a pet from someone who is unwilling to let you see how and where the animal is living!

    Description

Here’s a breif history on this cat. He was one of my kittens from a previous cat that I owned (rip), he went to what I though was a loving forever home, and was with them for a while, until he and his sister were returned to my care, sister had since been rehomed and is thriving. Upon his return to my care it’s been a battle, getting him to use the litter consistently, peeing on me, on my items, on items my other cats use, the random attacks on my other cats, keeping him out of the trash, off the counters, breaking things, tearing curtains down, hiding and running away when you approach him, or darting away if you move to fast.. Just a plethora of behavioural issues. and please understand that I am at my wits end. I have three huge litter boxes that get scooped regularly, he has all sorts of toys, and a 7foot cat tree, I’ve tried the hormonal diffusers, I’ve invested hours into playing with him, all sorts of love therapy, but his behavioural problems are just that, problems for me. He is a very affectionate cat, he will cuddle you for hours, he will let you know when his bowl or fountain is nearing empty, he’ll let you know when the litter box needs a scoop. Really a very smart cat. But I cannot continue to support him and his acting out for no reason, I live in an apartment and I work full-time hours, I don’t have the money or time (I work nights) to continue to clean up after him. So here I am reaching out hopeing someone can help this cat better than I can, I understand the implications I’m putting onto a new owner, but I’d rather that before I reach my end and just take him to the spca where he may be euthanized for his behavioural issues. He has been fixed, and he has a microchip but no information on where he was registered, or how to go about changing his microchip information, his shots do need to be updated, as I have no idea if the previous owners had kept on them and I have not had the time to take him to the vet.. I will keep this ad up until someone is willing to take him on, be advised if you do, you’d need to bring your own carrier and have some patience as he’s not to fond of being cornered to get him in said carrier.
