Description

Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Age: Adult
Sex: Female
Size: M

A kind and concerned gentleman brought Smudge into the vets after she was hit by a car. She could not use her back legs and it was uncertain what damage had been done. An x-ray showed a broken pelvis and back leg, plus numerous cuts and contusions. The breaks could not be repaired so an ARF foster home took her home to see if she would heal on her own. She was kept quiet in a small bathroom space so she could not move and medications helped with her pain. It took six weeks of sitting on the floor with her to get this wee gal, a feral cat, to accept a pat without shaking. Slowly she allowed more and more contact and then she climbed into a lap!

Smudge is now fully healed. She has a tiny wiggle to her walk, but runs and plays with the other cats in her foster home. The resident cats had watched her from the bathroom door and accepted her easily once she came out! She plays with toys now, a new experience for a cat who has lived outdoors all her life. She loves balls…all types! She loves to sit in the sun high up on the cat tree and enjoy the view. When birds come to the glass ceiling in the sunroom she us on high alert!

Smudge is a great little eater and comes running when wet food is available. She is still very shy, and hides when the grandchildren are around. But she is making great progress and allows her foster parents to pick her up and stroke her. She has a beautiful soft grey coat, and is beginning to let us brush her. She has been spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, and treated for fleas and parasites. To adopt this amazing little survivor, please visit our website at www.arfontario.com.

Things you should know about buying or adopting a pet

While pet sellers can be reputable individuals or breeders who treat their animals well, the ease of selling pets over the Internet also makes it attractive to careless, irresponsible breeders and scammers. To protect yourself, you must be careful and believe only what you see and not what you are told. It is highly recommended to arrange for an inspection of the home where the pets are bred. This allows you to check that the mother and other animals are living in suitable conditions, being well cared for, and are in good health.

Remember that the Kijiji Pets section is NOT intended to facilitate uncontrolled breeding, irresponsible commercial pet trading, trade of dogs or any other animal for the purpose of fighting or stud services. Any ads that are suspected of promoting this kind of activity or reported to us will be removed. Users are responsible for adhering to the applicable conditions in relation to adopting, buying, selling or listing of an ad on Kijiji.

Kijiji encourages, where possible, the adoption of pets and encourages all pet owners to have their animals spayed or neutered as well as microchipped.

When looking for a pet, it is important to meet the breeder or seller and examine the pet before agreeing to anything. Since Kijiji is local to your community, this should be easy to arrange. Never adopt/buy a pet from someone who is unwilling to let you see how and where the animal is living!
