Name: Satcha & Akira
Breed: Hound Collie Mix
Age: 3 yrs
Dogs: Low key passive
Two sweeter and more sensitive souls cannot be found. These two bonded sisters have been through thick and thin together and have finally landed in their first safe and secure place. They were found on Walpole Island Reservation near Wallaceburg, scavenging and surviving on their own. By the time a local shelter got them, Akira was pregnant and had severe mange. The sisters lived separately in the shelter for a year where, slowly, Akira got healthier and her puppies got adopted. Satcha, however, had no such good fortune and developed a severe case of mange with her comprised immune system. Unfortunately, the shelter was closing down and these girls had nowhere to go. They were slotted for euthanasia...see their full story here:
Satcha & Akira are 3 year old sisters, their mother was a black shepherd who died the way she lived her whole life...on a chain. Their father was said to be a spotted hound/collie mix that strayed the area.
Upon arriving to their foster home (the first home these two would ever have stepped foot in), they were completely vetted and Satcha was eventually treated for her severe mange:
Satcha & Akira were so scared that they were given a quiet room in the basement of their foster home. That is where they stayed, huddled together in a corner under a large table for the next few months as their foster parents worked slowly to gain their trust. Because they were so scared, their foster parents would visit them with their food every day until finally they were willing to eat from their hands. Over time, they began to slowly come out of their shells. It took 2 whole months before these timid creatures would come out from hiding, another 3 months before they would feel comfortable stepping foot outdoors, and finally another 2 months before rolling over for belly rubs was a consideration.
Now, 9 months later Satcha & Akira are like new dogs! They spend their time cuddling on the sofa while watching movies with their foster family, bounding around the backyard and learning what being loved is all about.
Individually, they have very different but complimentary personalities. It took 5 months for Satcha to finally get healthy, clearing her mange, skin infections and colossal tapeworm. Now, for the first time in her life, she isn't devoting a large amount of her energy into fighting an ailment and is finally comfortable and free to soak in the world like a sponge. Satcha never says "no" to any kind of affection and will move close to anything for an extra piece or two of kibble. Satcha is the trailblazer, the bold sister who will explore an unknown area first and then report back to her sister. She always has a watchful eye on Akira, and shows concern if she think her sister is in trouble.
Akira, in contrast, was very overweight when she was brought into the foster program, finding it difficult to stay on her feet for long periods of time, and has worked hard to lose it! Akira is the couch potato cuddler, content in curling up with her family to watch a movie and will never turn down the opportunity to give kisses! She is the strong protector of the two, always the first to try to ward off unknown dangers, running the perimeter of the yard when she hears a dog bark or a chipmunk squeak.
These two sisters would make a great addition to a kind and patient family. They would do well with other dogs (mainly low-key and passive dogs). Once they feel that they are safe, they will warm up to anyone willing to take the time to make them feel loved. These girls deserve nothing but love for the rest of their lives.
We are seeking a furever home for Akira & Satcha together. Must have a fenced in yard. A quiet, routine home with an experienced family is absolutely necessary.

Things you should know about buying or adopting a pet
While pet sellers can be reputable individuals or breeders who treat their animals well, the ease of selling pets over the Internet also makes it attractive to careless, irresponsible breeders and scammers. To protect yourself, you must be careful and believe only what you see and not what you are told. It is highly recommended to arrange for an inspection of the home where the pets are bred. This allows you to check that the mother and other animals are living in suitable conditions, being well cared for, and are in good health.
Remember that the Kijiji Pets section is NOT intended to facilitate uncontrolled breeding, irresponsible commercial pet trading, trade of dogs or any other animal for the purpose of fighting or stud services. Any ads that are suspected of promoting this kind of activity or reported to us will be removed. Users are responsible for adhering to the applicable conditions in relation to adopting, buying, selling or listing of an ad on Kijiji.
Kijiji encourages, where possible, the adoption of pets and encourages all pet owners to have their animals spayed or neutered as well as microchipped.
When looking for a pet, it is important to meet the breeder or seller and examine the pet before agreeing to anything. Since Kijiji is local to your community, this should be easy to arrange. Never adopt/buy a pet from someone who is unwilling to let you see how and where the animal is living!
