Breed: Collie mix
Age: 5 yrs
Fenced in backyard
Laika was found abandoned and brought into rescue. It was very apparent that Laika had a very bad life, part of her jaw is missing making it very hard for her to eat, one ear flap is missing. As soon as a blanket was offered to her she immediately claimed it as her comfort spot. With lots of love and attention she rolled and presented her belly on the third day being in foster. By the fifth day her tail came up.
Walking her on a lead is work in progress. She stops and bolts repeatedly and although not a big dog the constant jolting requires constant attention. This week I bought a gentle leader which is a nose halty that attaches to her neck collar but not under her jaw. It seems to be working much better.
We went to the dog park for the first time on October the 9th. I was cautious because I knew she could not protect her self from other dogs due to the missing jaw. There was 3 dogs playing at the park. I asked the owners if any of the dogs were aggressive it turns out they were all softies so off she went to play. When the other dogs came to sniff her she stood stalk still then bolted. After a few minutes she approached the other dogs and it was play time for the next 20 minutes. She came home happy and exhausted. Laika is a gentle dog who loves attention. She loves to run and play with other dogs and will carry soft things in her mouth like my cloth grocery bags. She needs training and guidance to build her confidence and lots of love to gain her trust â and she is worth it.

Things you should know about buying or adopting a pet
While pet sellers can be reputable individuals or breeders who treat their animals well, the ease of selling pets over the Internet also makes it attractive to careless, irresponsible breeders and scammers. To protect yourself, you must be careful and believe only what you see and not what you are told. It is highly recommended to arrange for an inspection of the home where the pets are bred. This allows you to check that the mother and other animals are living in suitable conditions, being well cared for, and are in good health.
Remember that the Kijiji Pets section is NOT intended to facilitate uncontrolled breeding, irresponsible commercial pet trading, trade of dogs or any other animal for the purpose of fighting or stud services. Any ads that are suspected of promoting this kind of activity or reported to us will be removed. Users are responsible for adhering to the applicable conditions in relation to adopting, buying, selling or listing of an ad on Kijiji.
Kijiji encourages, where possible, the adoption of pets and encourages all pet owners to have their animals spayed or neutered as well as microchipped.
When looking for a pet, it is important to meet the breeder or seller and examine the pet before agreeing to anything. Since Kijiji is local to your community, this should be easy to arrange. Never adopt/buy a pet from someone who is unwilling to let you see how and where the animal is living!
