Meet Maggie! Maggie is approximately 4 years old and was rescued along with about a dozen other hounds. She is a hound mix with a very sweet disposition, weighing in at a lean 50 pounds. Maggie has been given a clean bill of health from the vet, who stated that she is a great weight, healthy teeth, strong heart and a healthy looking coat!

Maggie does extremely well with other dogs, as well as adults and children. She uses her signature nose both inside and outside of the house to assist her in locating any small animals. For this reason we suggest that she goes to a home without any cats or small animals (rabbits, etc.) After she "hunts" down the source of the scent she will proceed to let loose her adorable hound howl until the source is removed from the area.
Maggie is fully house trained and knows to do her business outside, however we have noticed that she does like to urinate frequently and has the odd accident on the mat at the back door if we don't let her out in time. We are working on basic obedience with her as she does not seem to understand any commands yet. We think it would be a great idea for her forever family to take her into obedience training to further her training as well as provide a great bonding experience. She is a very smart dog and caught on to most of the household rules within the first day. We are working on several commands with her, she doesn't seem too keen to want to sit, however she is getting very good with "off", "come" and "leave it".
Maggie enjoys going into her crate at night with a few treats when it's time for her humans to go to bed and she doesn't even make a peep!! She also uses her crate during the day when we are out and about. Sometimes during the day she will even go into her crate to just have a little quiet lie down.
Maggie enjoys lots of backyard playing time with the two resident dogs and will outrun them every time! She is definitely a high energy dog and will require plenty of exercise to keep her from developing any destructive tendencies. Maggie really enjoys spending her time outside she would do great to have a large fully fenced backyard at her forever home. Maggie does surprisingly well on her walks, once she gets going she walks at a very fast trot and would probably enjoy a jogging companion (although I have not tried this yet). She will occasionally stop dead in her tracks when she finds a particularly good scent, but usually only spends a few seconds with it. In saying that, Maggie has a VERY high prey drive, if any small animals are seen on walks she will lunge and pull to get to where they are. She needs a completely escape proof harness or gentle leader, as she has managed to get out of one once while trying to chase a squirrel. With lots of consistent training, I believe she could be a great walker.
Maggie is happy to follow the other dogs around the house or hang out in whatever room her humans are in. Once in a while when the humans take a nap, Maggie will come up on the bed and snuggle with everyone.

Maggie would do well in a home with either another dog to play with, or someone who will ensure she gets regular exercise either by playing in a fenced in area or with walks. She is a very happy dog and would make a great addition to any family!!

Maggie is available for adoption through Grand River All Breed Animal Rescue. The adoption donation is $375. All of our dogs are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated as part of their adoption. Please fill out our Adoption Form if you are interested. You can also reach us by email at

Things you should know about buying or adopting a pet

While pet sellers can be reputable individuals or breeders who treat their animals well, the ease of selling pets over the Internet also makes it attractive to careless, irresponsible breeders and scammers. To protect yourself, you must be careful and believe only what you see and not what you are told. It is highly recommended to arrange for an inspection of the home where the pets are bred. This allows you to check that the mother and other animals are living in suitable conditions, being well cared for, and are in good health.

Remember that the Kijiji Pets section is NOT intended to facilitate uncontrolled breeding, irresponsible commercial pet trading, trade of dogs or any other animal for the purpose of fighting or stud services. Any ads that are suspected of promoting this kind of activity or reported to us will be removed. Users are responsible for adhering to the applicable conditions in relation to adopting, buying, selling or listing of an ad on Kijiji.

Kijiji encourages, where possible, the adoption of pets and encourages all pet owners to have their animals spayed or neutered as well as microchipped.

When looking for a pet, it is important to meet the breeder or seller and examine the pet before agreeing to anything. Since Kijiji is local to your community, this should be easy to arrange. Never adopt/buy a pet from someone who is unwilling to let you see how and where the animal is living!
