Breed: Hound
Age: Adult
Sex: Male
Size: M

Meet Quey he is the sweetest, gentlest guy. He is 2 1/2 years old.

Quey was rescued from a bad situation with several other hounds.

He has come a long way in the 8 weeks he has been with us. He has gained confidence. Put on weight and is very healthy with a good appetite.

Quey loves other dogs and has great dog manners. He would love a new home with a dog friend to run and play with. Quey has seen the cats in the house when they sit on the stairs but has not paid any attention to them.

Quey is very gentle and sweet he is unsure of new people but he will just lay and show you his belly if you approach. So if you are looking for a big cuddler Quey is not the man for you, at least not at the moment. Just recently he has decided when I let him out in the morning that's fuss time he will stand in the doorway and happily be petted and ask for more.

Quey had never been in a house until he came to the rescue and he will walk into the house now on leash or if I open the door at food time. Other than that he is still reluctant to come in voluntarily. However yesterday when a storm was brewing he had the sense to come in. Quey loves being outside and when the weather is good and I am home that's where he is relaxing just laying in the yard. As I said he is reluctant to come in the house once he is in he tends to go and lay down in his crate and that's where he stays. Quey caught on quickly to the house training he may still have the odd accident when I am out but goes overnight no problem.

Quey does not like raised voices or loud noises in the house or outside he will go and hide. He was obviously not socialised when he was younger and everything in life is new and scary to him. He still is not keen on the car but once in it he lays down quietly resigned. He is really frightened of being anywhere new on leash and I think he would be happy never to have a walk. If he has a good fenced yard and another dog to run with that would do him nicely. He would do well at a fenced dog park however he would need time to get used to it and feel comfortable there.

Quey is one smart boy and if I want him in the house at a certain time. I have to have a long line on him so I can get him in. He knows that if he is out in the small yard and I want him it generally means going in the house and he will hide. However when we walk on the property we have fully fenced acreage he has a wonderful time running and playing coming to me when I call him happy to be rewarded with his treat.

Quey is a hound and they need a secure yard as they tend to follow their noses. He has the hound bay but only when someone comes to the house or he is excited other than that he is a really quiet guy.

Quey will need a relaxed easy going quiet home. He is a work in progress could you be the one to carry on his journey teaching him the world is really not such a scary place after all.

Quey is available for adoption through Grand River All Breed Animal Rescue. The adoption donation is $375. All of our dogs are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated as part of their adoption. Please fill out our Adoption Form if you are interested. You can also reach us by email at

Things you should know about buying or adopting a pet

While pet sellers can be reputable individuals or breeders who treat their animals well, the ease of selling pets over the Internet also makes it attractive to careless, irresponsible breeders and scammers. To protect yourself, you must be careful and believe only what you see and not what you are told. It is highly recommended to arrange for an inspection of the home where the pets are bred. This allows you to check that the mother and other animals are living in suitable conditions, being well cared for, and are in good health.

Remember that the Kijiji Pets section is NOT intended to facilitate uncontrolled breeding, irresponsible commercial pet trading, trade of dogs or any other animal for the purpose of fighting or stud services. Any ads that are suspected of promoting this kind of activity or reported to us will be removed. Users are responsible for adhering to the applicable conditions in relation to adopting, buying, selling or listing of an ad on Kijiji.

Kijiji encourages, where possible, the adoption of pets and encourages all pet owners to have their animals spayed or neutered as well as microchipped.

When looking for a pet, it is important to meet the breeder or seller and examine the pet before agreeing to anything. Since Kijiji is local to your community, this should be easy to arrange. Never adopt/buy a pet from someone who is unwilling to let you see how and where the animal is living!
