become aware of a little dog left at a pet store. The pet store owner
couldn't keep him so the network sprung into action and GRAB agreed to
take him in.
We estimate Remy to be about 8-10 years old and a Pomeranian/Terrier
cross. He looks mostly like a Pomeranian, but sounds and acts more like
a terrier! Remy has had a rough start in life including poor nutrition
from a young age. His fur was dry, brittle and rubbed off in some
places. He suffers from alopecia in places which means his fur is patchy
and not perfect. Remy needs an owner who will love him just the way he
is! He is about 12 lbs now, but could stand to gain a few more.
Remy came to us with tapeworm and very poor dental health. He had
surgery to remove three bad teeth and clean the rest. A de-wormer took
care of the tapeworm.
Remy has a medium energy level. He enjoys a walk or two each day and is
happy to take long naps when left on his own. He is excellent on a leash
and can handle a brisk pace, but enjoys a more mellow pace. Remy could
live with another dog, but introductions would have to be handled
carefully as he can be uncomfortable around new dogs. Remy is not
playful with other dogs and would be happiest with another dog who
prefers the attention of humans, or as the only dog. Remy loves fetch
and his spiky green ball!
He is okay in the car, but does get a little anxious. He's learning that
car rides mean fun walks and is liking them more and more.
Remy gets along great with cats and has no interest in chasing them.
Remy is great with people and loves a pat and a cuddle. On his walks he
tries to say hello to everyone and loves stopping to let kids pat him.
Remy is incredibly sweet and loves a cuddle. He especially likes his
face rubbed and will get so into it he rolls around rubbing his face on
your hands and lap much like a cat! He's not able to jump on the
furniture, but if given a boost he'll curl up for a snuggle. Remy has
some anxiety, but wears an ADAPTIL collar 24/7 which makes a huge
difference. It's recommended that his new home continue with the collar
which is about $20/mnth.
At dinner time he'll give you a gruff little woof and a playbow to
remind you of the time! He has an excellent time-sense and likes a
regular routine. Remy did not come to us housebroken, but after a
difficult few months is 100% housetrained. He does need more frequent
potty-breaks than average and can not be left home alone for lengthy
periods. He would prefer a home where someone would let him out for a
break every 5 hours or so. He is very unhappy in a crate (possibly due
to being over-crated in the past), but is happily locked in the kitchen
at night with his bed.
Remy is an attentive, lovely little dude. He responds very quickly to
verbal correction and has already learned not to eat the cat food and
not to go upstairs. Things like âsitâ and âcomeâ are taking a bit more
effort, but he is getting there with lots of practice. He's gaining
confidence every day and it's amazing to see this little dog's big
personality start to shine through!
Remy is available for adoption through Grand River All Breed Animal Rescue. The adoption donation is $375. All of our dogs are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated as part of their adoption. Please fill out our Adoption Form if you are interested. Things you should know about buying or adopting a pet
While pet sellers can be reputable individuals or breeders who treat their animals well, the ease of selling pets over the Internet also makes it attractive to careless, irresponsible breeders and scammers. To protect yourself, you must be careful and believe only what you see and not what you are told. It is highly recommended to arrange for an inspection of the home where the pets are bred. This allows you to check that the mother and other animals are living in suitable conditions, being well cared for, and are in good health.
Remember that the Kijiji Pets section is NOT intended to facilitate uncontrolled breeding, irresponsible commercial pet trading, trade of dogs or any other animal for the purpose of fighting or stud services. Any ads that are suspected of promoting this kind of activity or reported to us will be removed. Users are responsible for adhering to the applicable conditions in relation to adopting, buying, selling or listing of an ad on Kijiji.
Kijiji encourages, where possible, the adoption of pets and encourages all pet owners to have their animals spayed or neutered as well as microchipped.
When looking for a pet, it is important to meet the breeder or seller and examine the pet before agreeing to anything. Since Kijiji is local to your community, this should be easy to arrange. Never adopt/buy a pet from someone who is unwilling to let you see how and where the animal is living!
