Classically-trained multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, fiddle prodigy and step dancer Lizzy Hoyt has already won countless awards for her historically-influenced songs and videos, which touch on the early pioneer experience in Canada and the First World War. Now, the Winnipeg-based artist is transforming her love of exploring history through music into a crowd pleasing holiday concert called Ancient Carols for a Winter’s Night, which features holiday carols that connect us in varying ways to the old days. Many of them date back to the 15th and 16th centuries and repurpose early Pagan melodies – making them a perfect fit for Lizzy’s beautiful Celtic arrangements. It’s a delightful evening of music that cuts through the clutter of the Christmas season and carries us back to the era before shopping mall Santas -- when the legends of St. Nicholas were first taking shape.
