Time is money. Seedlings take more time but take a lot less money. Seedlings are for patient people with thin wallets.
Planting a hedge? 12-18" seedlings are $3.25 each. Put it in a 2 gallon pot and wait a year, and the Big Box Store will charge you 15.97 I know: I buy these seedlings every year to stuff into pots and sell next year.
Every year we get calls in June for seedlings. Doesn't work that way. I have a two week window of seedlings in May. You snooze, you lose. Get your ducks in a row.
But you need to act. Seedlings come in between the end of April and middle of May. I can keep them for 2 weeks. By the end of that time they have to be in the ground, either at my place or yours.
"But I'm not ready to plant!"
Plant them in old nursery pots. An 8" pot will keep them happy for 2 years. Or save your 1 gallon milk jugs. (Put drainage holes in them. About eight 3/4" holes
