- Northwest: Grows to about 70 feet tall, with a spread of 30 to 40 feet. This is a good tree for providing shade in pastures, or in a rural yard.
- Okanese: Best 'great green wall' tree for shelterbelts. This tree is broadly columnar getting about 12 feet wide by 40 feet tall at maturity.
- Sundancer: Broad upright oval -- about 10 feet wide by 40 feet tall at maturity.
- Prairie Sky: A disease resistant version of 'Tower'. Gets 80 feet tall x 12 feet wide.
Disease resistant, drought resistant.
All three trees grow 3 or more feet a year. If you water them once a month, you can get another foot.
All are male clones -- pollen (bee approved) in very early spring, but no fluff.
Trees need to be kept weed free within 2-3 feet until they are 4 feet high. Once they are that tall, mowing around the trees is sufficient. See the article about mulching on my web site to save some work.
Water when planted, then water generously once a month or when soil is dry until the end of October. Fertilize with 1/4 cup of 20-10-10-10 (the last 10 is Sulfur) spread over a 2 foot diameter circle in October and in Mid-June. Fertilizer is available at any UFA store. Continuing to water in following years will increase growth by 25% Give them about 1 gallon of water per foot of height.
