Description

This ain’t no “J-45 Standard Vintage”; this superior, sought-after model is THE standard against which all J-45s hope to measure up. A jaw-dropping, top of the line build from Gibson's lauded Bozeman, Montana era that’s on par with the best Custom Shop J-45/50s without the inflated $7k+ price tag. I'm the original owner and had planned to keep this beauty forever but I’ve become limited to smaller body sizes. Any info you could want to know, including possible trades, will be found below but please feel free to ask any questions.

This 2014 J-45 True Vintage features an Adirondack (red) spruce top, 1940s-style hand-scalloped Adirondack “X” bracing, Honduran mahogany back, sides, and neck, and all hide glue construction. The guitar is very lightly built, and features a thin nitrocellulose sunburst lacquer finish that's hand rubbed to a low-lustre vintage sheen. 'Banner' headstock logo, closed-back Kluson Deluxe tuners, bone nut and saddle, and small-style pickguard, which on this one sports some lovely firestripe instead of the plain tortoise found on other TVs.

It’s a methodical reproduction of the most-prized ‘Banner’ J-45 introduced in 1942, but with the adjustable truss rod that wartime restricted, Indian rosewood fingerboard and bridge instead of Brazilian, and a downright heavenly neck profile that's much comfier than the "baseball bat" on many 40's Gibsons (everyone loves this neck!). Scale length is 24.75”, the nut width is a hair over 1-11/16” and the string spread at the bridge is 2-3/16”.

An exceptional sounding J-45 with classic early post-war tone: A robust and thick treble string response, well-articulated low end, supportive and strong midrange presence, and the ideal blend of focused fundamental with overtones that are colourful without an overwhelming amount of harmonic content. Warm, balanced, a little bit thumpy but also a little bit bright, and all-around very sweet, this J-45 TV does what we all want our Gibsons to do.

The consummate singer’s companion, it's right at home strumming songs and playing back-up to your voice, or throw some single-note runs at it and surprise your Martin-playing friends with its fullness and punch. It’s also delightfully responsive to fingerstyle and fills its space in a mix without trying to take over everything else. When pushed for more volume, it projects a natural compression, which further helps it blend nicely with any accompaniment.

Overall condition is excellent. No issues and no repairs done or needed; frets and playability are fantastic. It has some sparse cosmetic marks that are insignificant except in that they enable you to play with less restriction than a pristinely mint guitar. Currently set up with 12-54 Stringjoys for a medium+ pick attack. Comes with the original True Vintage brown and pink hardshell case (w. key and some candy) and an L.R. Baggs Anthem (TRU-MIC + Element pickup w. full controls; $419+ new), which suits it perfectly!

✧.* PAYMENT & DELIVERY *.✧

I strongly prefer CASH payment in person. Low ballers and tire kickers will be ignored and repeat attempters may be blocked. I can DELIVER along the 401, in and between the GTA and Ottawa, for a nominal ✧prepaid fee✧. Free delivery to serious buyers in the Belleville, west Kingston and Quinte areas. Shipping can be discussed but might firmly require that you pay for insurance; I use StewMac's inflatable packing system.

✧.* TRADES? *.✧

I strongly prefer an all-cash sale and am not in a rush: however, I will entertain trade offers. The trade value of this J-45 is higher than my cash price and I’m more interested in partial trades that include cash.

I will consider but **very likely decline** trades involving boutique electrics or acoustic steel string guitars. I am not interested in any acoustics larger than an OM/000 body size. I'm pretty well stocked and getting low on storage space as it is, but feel free to make an offer.

For PARTIAL trades + cash, here are some items that I’m looking for:

- Fryette Power Station PS-2a (“USA” ver/volt) - Vega-Trem VT1 **Standard* Tremolo Assembly in *satin* finish (or quality relic) - Set of Ron Ellis Mid 60s or 64S strat pickups, or Ellisonic P90s - Aston Shadow Reflection Filter (black/grey, not purple) - Audient iD44 MkII (no interest in other models or 1st version) - Tone King Metropolitan or Galaxy 2X12 extension CAB (any colour, loaded or unloaded) - Gefell m300 matched pair (stereo set w. case, bar, etc.) - Vanguard v13 gen2 (mint & complete) - Gefell M930 (no "90th" badge) - Ear Trumpet Labs Edwina (or maybe Myrtle) - Earthworks Icon Pro - Primacoustic *Paintable* panels or room kit - Primacoustic (or comparable) *beige or white* tri-corner (“cumulus”) or corner-mount (“maxtrap”) bass traps

Open to other reasonable offers but cash is queen!
