    Description

Looking to sell my early 1971 Gibson S.G Special. It's from the last bastion of the batwing era before the design changed to the S.G Pro in June of that year. Pete Townshend was a fan of these, and owned/smashed many of these '66-'71 models. These most notably feature brilliantly on Live at Leeds, or Woodstock '69 (among most of their shows from the late summer of '68, through early '71).

It's an honest player, with lots of checking, dings, and other things you'd pay a lot of money to have Tom Murphy do for you today, but with the exception of some unusual routing done around the pickup mounting screws underneath the pickguard (perhaps to gain some pickup height) it hasn't had any major repair or restoration. I did have a pro refret carried out in 2021 with 6105 wire, and a StewMac vintage style bone nut. The finish was originally cherry but has faded to a lovely walnut. Electrics are all original and sound fabulous -- get your Live at Leeds on! The bridge is a newer Gibson replacement intonated for a plain third. The original Vibrola (often missing) is accounted for and included (not pictured). Case is a non-original hardshell.

$6,000. Shipping available at cost, just ask. Prefer a local sale, though, and no trades at this time. Reluctantly selling, as I have too many guitars (ha ha ha...)

    Thanks.
