For Sale By Owner

Here is a chance to get a phenomenal Lowden for a fraction of the price. This is a relatively rare Lowden model with vintage factory installed wooden EQ nobs. Has tons of vintage Lowden mojo and all the characteristics of the Lowden sound – airy, articulate, lush, and responsive. This guitar is phenomenal for fingerstyle as it is super responsive to a light touch, and can handle light to medium strumming quite well. This one is hard to give up but I find myself preferring smaller bodied guitars.

This Lowden was built in the early 80’s when George Lowden moved his production to a small shop in Japan under the direction of the world-renowned luthier K. Yairi. Though some prefer a Lowden made in Ireland, many who have experience with both models testify that the Japanese models are to the same standard as the Ireland models, and even better in some cases. George frequently visited the shop in Japan and testifies to the quality of work on his website. If you need another reason to convince you of the quality of this guitar, the famous Irish Singer-Songwriter Damien Rice’s signature guitar is an S10P built in Japan in the same era as this guitar. His also has the vintage nobs and the bridge pins which makes me think these guitars were built within months of each other as very few have both of these features.

This guitar is structurally in tact with no major cracks, the neck is straight as an arrow and the action is perfect as it was professionally set up recently. All braces are in tact and seem tight, the guitar has no issues with buzzing or anything that would hinder it from playing beautifully. Has a magnetic Fishmann pickup installed over the sound hole which attaches to the EQ nobs.

The reason this guitar is priced low is that the previous owner sanded down the top with intentions to have it re-finished, but never refinished it so the top has more of a satin finish while the sides have a gloss finish. There are several scratches, dings, dents, and other markings on the guitar, the deepest ones being in the top. There are a few short hairline cracks in one corner of the top, as well as one very thin one from the bridge to the lower bout. I’ve tried to picture these but they were hard to capture. One part of the top near the bridge has a very subtle lift due to the soft nature of cedar, but isn’t an issue.

It comes in a Mono padded case, which fits and protects the guitar very well and is a thick and sturdy foam case that sells for around $200 US. I will ship the guitar double-boxed and padded to ensure that it travels safely. I’ve done my best to describe everything honestly and accurately, this is a rare chance to get a Lowden at this price, let me know if you have any questions!
