    Description

Up for sale, a 1964 Gretsch 6124 Anniversary electric guitar $2400.00 obo U.S.A. MADE In exceptional condition and in perfect working order. SN# 76676 Made in Brookyln N.Y. , U.S.A.. Fully hollow and featuring an early Hilo'Tron single coil pickup, this guitar balances snap, twang, and jangle with the smooth attack and warmth of the maple body construction. The light parallel tone bar bracing inside the body gives the instrument a lively, crisp acoustic tone, which translates well through the pickup, delivering a clarity and midrange character that sounds distinctly "Gretsch." The guitar is lightweight at 6lbs 10oz. We've professionally setup this Anniversary here at our shop, Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, and the instrument has been dialed in with low action and fresh 11-48 roundwound strings.

The maple neck has a slender C profile carve with modest shoulder at the nut and more heft and roundness as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .800" deep at the 1st fret and .940" at the 9th. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard is a very dark and tight-grained cut with pearl thumbnail inlay, professionally refretted with 6105 fretwire. The new frets are flawless, and the 6105 size has a slender vintage width and more height and crown than typically found on vintage wire, ensuring effortless bending and long fret life. The scale length measures 24 1/2", and a modern hand-carved bone nut has a full 1 11/16" width, perfect for easy chording and accurate lead lines without feeling cramped. On the headstock, the Gretsch inlay is particularly clean, and the Anniversary badge is intact. The original open-gear tuning machines turn very smoothly, holding pitch as they should.

The neck has just been professionally reset, meeting the body at the ideal angle with room for adjustment on both bridge thumbwheels. All of the original electronics are intact, with the Hilo'Tron wired to a single Volume knob and three-way tone switch (bypassed in the middle). The stock chrome hardware is in fantastic shape, with a clean "G" trapeze tailpiece, original knob, and stock "Space Control" bridge that allows you to adjust the string spacing on the fly if desired. The top also has a consistent arch with no sinking. The silkscreening on the pickup cover is completely intact too, a testament to the very light use this guitar has seen over the decades. The original thick gold pickguard is near mint, attached with the original bracket. Visible through the oversized F holes, the original Gretsch paper label is present.

This Gretsch boasts a positively gleaming and 100% original three-tone Sunburst gloss nitro lacquer finish framed by completely original and practically perfect top and back binding. Cosmetic wear is limited to a couple superficial splits in the black plastic headstock veneer and a few light finish scuffs and tiny nicks, mostly relegated to the back. A heavy duty hardshell case with black faux alligator exterior is included. Read on if you are interested: I’m thinning out my collection of mid to (low) high end of various vintage electric guitars and I will be posting a couple at a time over the next while. Nothing from the Wholly Grail list in the over 10K category. For now, I won’t be shipping ( you can ask) and limited intelligent questions will be answered to the best of my ability. I have novice skill as a musician ( I suck) and my instrument knowledge is basic, but that didn’t stop me from collecting some excellent guitars. I consider them art as much as an instrument Best to do a bit of homework on the instrument, but almost all were bought from reputable retail stores and were checked and set up professionally within the last 2 years, mainly bought in the U.S.A ( Mike and Mikes Guitar Bar in Seattle, Wa. U.S.A.) and some from Quebec ( Direct music online). . Upon request I will provide an in depth description that was posted in the original sale that will educate and amaze you. A couple I bought locally. They have been stored in a humidified environment in the drier months, mostly displayed, played lightly, and never out of my alarmed/guard dog home. All have cases. My prices reflect my investment and are quite firm. Importing from the U.S.A. is expensive with our lame dollar, shipping, taxes and duty and broker fees. No tours, jams, groups, cheap skates, grinders, show offs, Clowns or trades. A test ride is acceptable upon appointment, but don’t waste my time and humiliate me with your skills.A decent amp will be available to plug into. More and better pictures can be emailed. If you have something you are looking for, ask, as I may have one. Fender, Gibson, Rickenbacker, Kay, Silvertone, Gretsch, Duesenberg, Danelectro ( amp in case 1960’s), Kauer ( Thunderbird), Harmony. The best way to contact me is through my email nsuser@shaw.ca so I can effectively organize names with questions and further info and price if required. My name is Bob. I have joined the new age and use a cell phone on occasion and if I see a use for it in a meeting or a prospective deal, I will share my number for a text or phone call. I prefer my privacy and don’t carry my cell phone all the time. My land line is available by chance and leave a message if I don’t pick up. Bottom line is I’m not desperate to sell these, just thinning the herd as although displayed, I can’t enjoy them all so I’d rather they be seen and used by someone else. Part of the fun was the search and the deal.
