Even Healthy Foods can Sabotage our Health!!!
I was involved in physique competitions for 5 years. Before that time, everything I ate was "low fat", I didn't eat enough, and I worried about every single calorie I put in my mouth. Guess what? It didn't get me anywhere.
Training for those competitions taught me amazing things:
1. The importance of eating and providing sustenance for my body
and the activities I was participating in.
2. The types of foods that would properly fuel my body and
3. That drinking water, and lots of it, helped not only my body's
ability to digest food, but improved the health of my hair and my
skin, I slept better . . . the list goes on.
4. And this is the BIGGIE . . . from having such a "clean" diet, when
I had high calorie days that were prescribed in my plan, I realized
that the BLOAT, the gas, and a lot of the extra weight I had
previously carried around was due to the perceived "healthy"
things I was eating.
Yup, I had food sensitivities. I later learned, after several Ayurvedic cleanses and finally seeing a Naturopath for testing, I had allergies!
End result . . . I don't believe in scales (throw them away), I don't believe in weight as a measure of worth! I continue to feed by body with the nutritious foods that I naturally crave, allow myself a daily indulgence of my favourite thing (dark chocolate covered almonds), and engage in activities that I absolutely love . . . and my body does it's own work for ME.
I've learned so much along my journey to health and have so many tools that I've shared with so many of my friends and my yoga students, who have found their own success. I'd love to share them with you.
