This is top quality Perma-Guard Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth, guaranteed to be greater than 99.5% amorphous silica. You would NOT want to consume, or use in your home or yard anything but food grade DE. The industrial or ‘pool grade’ DE is a large percentage of crystalline silica because it has been heat treated, it is not safe to have in your home.

As an insecticide DE is a mechanical killer, killing insects (ants, lice and bed bugs included) without any harsh chemicals by cutting through their waxy coating causing them to dehydrate. In the dry winter air, it works rapidly. In our humid summers it will take longer for the bugs to dehydrate. I have eliminated lice and fleas, without the use of toxic chemicals using DE.

Please do your own research online to see the literally thousands of testimonials!

When dusting for lice or fleas I literally measure out one teaspoon to one tablespoon into a small strainer from the dollar store and gently 'sift' it over the area to be treated. Less is more with this. It must physically contact the bugs to kill them. If it is applied too heavily the bugs may just avoid walking through it. I have found sifting it with a fine strainer is very economical and most effective. It's incredibly cost effective, and it does the job!

**Please note it is a very fine powder, and you must protect your lungs when working with it. Wear a mask to avoid breathing in the fine particles. Any powder, even baby powder can be dangerous when breathed in.
