My name is Spencer Bevan, and I have been a musician for over 15 years. I worked as a mechanic for most of my adult life and taught music on the side, and now am taking the leap to do it full time. I am so excited to share my passion and experience with you.

I took lessons for the first few years of my musical journey, but have been self-taught for the last 10 or so years. I am always amazed at how much depth there is to music knowledge and technique. I could study and practice for multiple lifetimes and always have more to learn. It’s this wonder and motivation that I want to share with you, and help you become a more well rounded musician than you thought possible.

My teaching method focuses on the more practical aspects of music theory to help you communicate and collaborate with other musicians, as well as better understand your instrument. This includes topics such as: identifying key centres, modes, chords, and intervals, understanding different time signatures and beat subdivisions, fretboard visualization, improvisation, and so much more. I also like to use learning songs as an opportunity to point out any of these concepts in real examples to help ground the theory in reality. I try to put an equal emphasis on playing technique with topics such as proper hand/finger articulation, posture, different playing techniques, etc.

Even if you are a music producer who doesn't have a particular instrument you'd like to tackle, I can also teach general music theory to help with your arrangements and projects.

Lessons are held either at my home studio in the Grandin area of St. Albert, at your own residence, or remotely. My standard rate is 40$ per 1 hour lesson.
