Hi. I am a professional singer/songwriter/voice instructor/director with a vocal performance degree from the University of Calgary and have been teaching at institutions such as Grant MacEwan University, Medicine Hat College and Brock University for the past 15 years. I have done residencies at the Banff Centre For the Arts, Vermont Jazz Centre and studied with some of the greatest masters of singing and improvising in jazz and contemporary music. I have also sung several opera roles on stage including Ma Moss in Aaron Copeland's, The Tenderland. I direct musicals and light operas, particularly Gilbert and Sullivan, and I have recently moved into the Westmount area opening a private teaching studio in my home. I am a classically trained musician with a very strong contemporary background and I teach a variety of styles from jazz, contemporary and musical theatre to opera and art song.
In addition to being a stage performer as well as a jazz singer, I have been recorded and aired on CKUA and CBC radio. I also coach/manage aspiring singer/songwriters wanting to break into the business. Singers I have coached and developed over the years include Kreesha Turner, Kalan Porter and Jayne Doe. Many of my classical singers are singing around the world on the opera and musical theatre stages, as well.
I welcome the opportunity to work with all levels of singers, from beginner to advanced, children to adults.
In addition to singing, I have extensive training in piano and invite inquiries from any beginner students wishing to learn. Acting and speech coaching are available, as well.
I am eager to work with new students and share my passion for music and singing and guide students further in their appreciation of the creative and performing arts. For further information and/or to book a consultation, please feel free to contact me (Taylene Lyon) at the above number or by email.
