Hello, and thank you for your interest.

I am offering private instruction specialized for piano and cello students. My approach is based upon helping students to understand music first and then discover different ways of expressing that understanding to others as an artist. My primary goal is to give or strengthen someone's love for music-making. I aspire to provide the most fun, productive and rewarding experience to my students by encouraging them to set goals, and introducing them to new ways of thinking that facilitate problem-solving. The focus of each lesson is tailored differently for each student, with emphasis on tracking how their needs change as they learn.
The technical component involved when learning to play an instrument is a tool-set to build upon and be used for musical intention. As such, I teach technique as something that occurs as a result of deep concentration upon each musical detail, over time discovering more efficient means of expressing those details.
So often is practicing an instrument dreaded and misunderstood as a tedious chore. I enjoy encouraging my students to achieve the patience and discipline that is needed when they practice independently, so that it is fun and rewarding for them.
