Here is why:
It is the law. Home insurance also requires gas tag on any gas appliances. It is for safety and for liability. DO NOT let any gas appliance installed by anyone who is not a licensed gas fitter. No tag on gas line is not only illegal but is also dangerous if installation is not done right. When an appliance found no tag, the installer will get a fine plus imprisonment if it concerns safety. The homeowner is also required to fill up an infraction form.
Clause 6.22.6 of the Gas Code Book as per TSSA
When the pressure test in 6.22.2 or the leak test in 6.22.4 is completed, a tag stating the following information shall be attached to the piping, tubing system or an appliance in a readily accessible location protected from the environment:
(i) Address of test;
(ii) Contractor’s name
(iii) Contractor’s registration number
(iv) Date of test
(v) Test pressure
(vi) Test duration
(vii) Total pipe length
(viii) Pipe size
(ix) Gas Technician name
(x) Gas Technician certificate number and classification
(xi) Statement: "DO NOT REMOVE"
You may think you save money now by installing the unit by someone who is not a licensed gas fitter only to find out later you spend more when things go wrong and the person responsible is nowhere to be found.
Be smart. Be safe.
