Calling all homewoners who are contemplating hiring a Roofing Contractor that is not insured and does not cover WSIB.

There are many reasons that these are rules are in place, but the main issue that effects you as the homeowner is that if any of those workers injure themselves working on your home - You are liable! In this case, the rule is in place to protect you from such tragedies happening - And a tragedy it would be!

If a worker ends up getting hurt working on your home - YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FINANCIALLY- you want and should demand they have insurance.

WSIB is in place to protect the workers. Responsible Company Owners want to do this. If you hire a company that does not attain WSIB - they or any of their staff is not protected.

So now we have a situation where the homeowners life is changed, probably forever with an injury or death they have to live with and pay for and workers that are left unprotected because their Employer doesn't care about their welfare.

On top of all this- Professional Contractors who do pay for insurance and WSIB are often asked to 'match' or 'come down in price' to match these non-conforming contractors - And when you see now- no wonder they can price a job cheaper - They aren't looking after their responsibilities.

If everything goes initially well, and no one gets injured, or dies - How do you trust the work of someone who is actively evading a system for personal gain? Where is your guarantee with both application and material? How do you know what you are getting?

For a few hundred dollars, the ramifications of hiring an uninsured contractor is far too great. If you are one of the unfortunate ones - trust me you would happily hand over that few hundred dollars just not to be in that life changing mess.

At the end of the day hire the contractor you want. Just please ensure you look after yourself in doing so. There are really great professional out there, that work hard every day to offer you a safe option - Please choose one of them.
