Description

Recently professionally refurbished by a luthier, one crack repaired. This vintage ukulele, made by Leonardo Nunes, measures approximately 8-3/4" in length. Leonardo Nunes was the son of Manuel, the self-professed inventor of the ukulele. Manuel came to the islands in 1879. Leonardo, instead of joining up and making it Manuel & Son set out on his own to produce ukes that are virtually indistinguishable from Pop's. Constructed of koa, considerable figure and rope binding finery, making this one highly desirable. A rare example of Leonardo Nunes's work from the 1920's era. This particular model is higher end and features curved back, extensive rope binding trim around the body and sound hole. Beautiful golden Koa wood with plenty of flame and figure. Paper label inside the soundhole with the Leonardo Nunes branding. Beautiful abalone dot inlays at the 5th and 7th fret, all Koa construction, and original friction pegs. Soprano size with 12 frets to the body.
