Do you need a writing tutor?

Hi all. My name is Ricky. I work with university students from all backgrounds, in all programs, in all years of study, and at any stage of the writing process. My rate is $25 per hour.

I teach students how to plan and write essays; think critically and construct arguments; develop core research skills; understand assignments; use statistics and data plots to explore and present research findings, and much more.

I have ten years of first hand experience helping students write essays in the following disciplines: English Literature; Nursing and Dentistry; Psychology and Philosophy; Business and Macro Economics; Environmental Economics; Geography and Geology; Astrophysics; and Occupational Health and Safety.

My experience in the classroom includes helping students who are managing dyslexia, panic attack and anxiety symptoms, issues with attention and focus, as well as supporting students whose first language is not English.

In recent years, I have also helped high school students improve their reading, thinking, and writing skills, and played a key role in helping them graduate from high school and gain admission into university.

I’m patient, a strong communicator, friendly, and non-judgmental about the learning process. Thus far, I’ve taught high school students as young as 13 years old and university students as seasoned as the late 60’s.

I enjoy helping people overcome obstacles that might be holding them back from achieving their true potential. My role as a tutor has strong elements of teaching in the process: I go above and beyond to inspire and guide folks as best I can.

Verbal explanations, written explanations and examples, sketched out diagrams, looking at research papers together, sharing educational videos and supporting material, and explaining information several different ways and several times over — these are the communication tools I use to make sure you understand the material we’re looking at together.

I usually tutor people through video call platforms (e.g., Google Meets, Skype, Zoom, FaceTime); through email (if the student prefers written communication and feedback, I do that using the Track Changes feature in MS Word); and if possible, in person.
