Systematic Tutoring of Literacy Skills
Gianne Broughton, B. Ed. M. A.
Does your child need help to "crack the code" and learn to match letters with sounds? Is your child unclear about the rules of spelling or grammar?
If your answers are "Yes", I can help.
Children's learning paces vary, but generally, two or three one-hour lessons a week for eight months will result in solid reading ability, even for children with learning difficulties. One hour per week is adequate if parents are available to follow my instructions for exercises to do at home. Lessons are broken up into small, pleasant chunks.
$40 per hour, with discount in some circumstances.
I teach from my home on Sherbrooke Street near Park Street. Also, in some cases, I can teach at other locations (a transportation charge would apply).
I have a Bachelor of Education and a Master of Arts, and specialized training in phonemic awareness. I use the Simultaneous Multisensory Teaching (SMT) method, which is derived from the Orton-Gillingham method. I also have some training in Davis Dyslexia Orientation Counseling.
These methods can be adapted for adults.
I also offer tutoring in Math, and English and French as a Second Language for children and adults.
