Our Happy Place Vacationing in Victoria Beach Restricted Area is like stepping back in time. It is truly a unique vacation area in North America. During the summer months cars are not permitted in the cottage area; There is a large parking lot adjacent to the cottage and beach area where everyone parks. Taxi are available. How do people get around? By biking and walking! The streets of Victoria Beach are riddled with kids and adults bikes. This makes for a truly fun and healthy living environment. Our cottage is located on 1 Elm Avenue in the Restricted Area. In the Restricted Area, your car has to be left at the parking lot at the entrance to the area. Parking is about $16 per week, and passes can be purchased at the parking office. You can take a Beach taxi to the cottage with all of your stuff -- about $14. Within the Restricted Area, bikes and feet are the main forms of transportation, making for a peaceful, safe, old-time feel. The cottage is a 2.5 minute bike ride from Einfeld's Bakery, the General Store, the park, the tennis courts, the Victoria Beach Golf Course, and a three minute bike ride to the VB clubhouse and beach and most of the other beaches. The cottage comes with a kayak for your enjoyment along with life jackets; always use a life jacket and stay close to shore. There is also a ping pong set up in the double garage. The cottage has three bedrooms: one with a full bed, one bunk beds (single on top and full on bottom) and one single bunk. There is also a couch in the living room that folds down. Each bed will be made with clean sheets and bedding when you arrive, and there is a spare set of sheets and extra blankets for each bed in the dressers. It also has a wood-burning fireplace, a full kitchen stocked with everything that you'd normally find in a basic kitchen (see list of items below), a barbeque with propane, running municipal water (potable), a 46 inch flat screen tv, a sun room with a table and sofa and a chair. There are also lots of kid's books - plus lots of board games (teens and adults) and toys. Wood is available at the store if our supplies have been depleted The bathroom has a toilet, sink, shower, and hot water tank, towels and face cloths, and a basic first aid kit. New in 2022: a beautiful outdoor shower with hot and cold water! All you really need to bring are your clothes including towels, your food, and your own bikes, if you want them. We have many old bikes both for adults and kids as well as a chariot, as well as a child bike extension for kids. We have satellite wifi! There is no land line, but there is cell service, and there are land lines available nearby in an emergency. Best way to watch movies on Netflix, Prime or Disney is to bring your laptop and connect by HDMI cable (we have one). General store at VB is open from 8 am to 8pm. Bakery’s hours vary but usually 11am-4pm. We have excellent neighbours! Check out at 11 a.m.; check in at 3 p.m. No smoking, no pets. There is a $400 damage deposit for new renters; returning renters do not have to provide damage deposit. The cleaning fee is included in the rental fee. *The kitchen has a coffee maker, a coffee grinder, a kettle, plates, bowls, glasses, mugs, cutlery, serving and baking dishes, jugs, pots, frying pans, muffin tins, cookie sheets, a blender, a crock pot, flour (white and whole wheat), sugar (white and brown), basic herbs and spices, baking powder, baking soda, vinegar, salt, vanilla, food containers, cleaning supplies. What to do Beach – the clubhouse beach is the closest, but you can also go to the beach on highway 59 or Albert Beach. These are good option if you find that there is algae in the clubhouse beach (happens sometimes especially in late August). Usually if there is algae at Clubhouse Beach, that means highway 59 and Albert are clear. Feel free to use the beach chairs; they are very comfortable. Bike to the pier. Nice view. You can also fish off the pier (fishing gear is provided – two roads and a tackle box; you just need to have a license and buy some minnows.) Best time to fish would be morning 8-11 and evening 8-11. Drive to Sandy Bay (4km south), park on highway 504 and walk to Sandy Bay beach. There are usually lots of frogs in the pond as you walk to the beach – my son spends hours there. Play tennis (courts are open to all after August 15th). From Renter 2022 and booked 2023 This was a great place to spend the week. We have three kids aged 5 - 10. The two older kids brought their own bikes but there were also bikes there - most days we biked to the beach and spent the day there, also the chariot was very useful. The kayak was a lot of fun, we managed to tie it to one of our wagons and walk it to the beach. The gazebo was very relaxing, there was a nice breeze in the trees and it was a great place to spend the afternoon reading a book. Between the satellite, the ping pong table and the games the kids stayed entertained. Also the outdoor shower was a big hit. Our only complaint was having to leave. We'll be back next year for sure!
