Job Description:Job Description Responsibilities: · Supervise, Provides direction, support and team leadership to program staff so that they may develop to ensure that they work together to achieve the purposes of the organization and enhance the ministries of The Salvation Army · Develops strategies and recommendations for program staff and volunteer development; handles recruitment, orientation, performance management and assists with terminations · Preparing and submitting reports, proposals, program evaluations and/or business plans as requested by internal or external sources; maintains confidentiality of all client and staff records and statistical data · Develops and implements policies and procedures specific to the Community Ministries program in consultation with the CMD or CO · Works with the CMD/CO to ensure that programs meet contractual, legal and internal accreditation requirements · Serves actively as a member of the Supervisor’s team for the Community Ministries Centre · Ensures that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is exemplified in the performance of all job responsibilities and through personal example · Gives oversight to a specific community ministries program, ensuring ministry objectives are consistently accomplished and that a spiritual focus is applied to all program initiatives · Prays with and shares the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ with clients, staff and volunteers, endeavoring to assimilate them into the Body of Christ, as appropriate (including linking clients to the church family and church programs where possible) · provide intake services, client assessment, emergency assistance, short-term spiritual counselling, ongoing case management and/or other forms of direct service for clients applicable to the program. · Assists the Community Ministries Director and/or Corps Officer with ongoing strategic planning to ensure programming reflects client needs as these may evolve in our changing socioeconomic climate and reflects continuous quality improvement initiatives · Develops an operating budget for the specific community ministries program for formal approval, and monitors/manages financial performance of the program accordingly · Networks with Salvation Army, government and community social service providers to coordinate resources for the benefit of clients and program · May assist with coordination/organization of donation and fund raising efforts and/or special or seasonal programs (Red Shield Appeal, Christmas Kettle Campaign, Food Drives, Donation Drives, Christmas Hamper, Toy Distribution, Summer Camps, Community Dinners, etc.) · May provide visibility for the specific community ministries program within the community through service club participation, media relations, general public relations, etc. and ensure effective marketing of the program · Actively pursues personal and professional development through reading relevant texts and professional journals, attending relevant workshops, seminars, conferences, etc. · Works in accordance with the Code of Ethics for the incumbent’s professional association; ensures full compliance with child protection legislation (where applicable) and intervenes when necessary · Performs other duties as assigned NOTE: Not all incumbents perform all of the duties described above but perform a similar range of duties. MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL ATTAINED: The successful job applicant will have completed an Undergraduate University degree (e.g., B.A., B.Sc., B.Sc.N.). NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable. SPECIAL LICENSES, DIPLOMAS, CERTIFICATIONS OR REQUIREMENTS: The successful applicant will hold/have: · Bachelor’s and/or Master’s in the appropriate discipline (as required by funding contract/s) · **See Precautionary Measures** MINIMUM PRIOR RELATED EXPERIENCE: The incumbent must have the following experience before hire: One year but less than three years of prior related experience, including, experience in a specialized social services program, inclusive of some supervisory experience and experience communicating orally and in writing. PHYSICAL EFFORT/DEXTERITY REQUIRED: The performance of the job requires a moderate amount of computer work, attending training workshops etc., and occasionally intervening in physical confrontations and lifting/moving equipment more than 20 pounds. CONCENTRATION REQUIRED: The performance of the job requires attentive listening (for supervision, recruitment, counselling, conflict resolution, etc.), and moderate concentration when doing computer work, and preparing proposals, reports, training materials, etc. RESPONSIBILITY FOR FINANCIAL RESOURCES: The incumbent’s responsibility for Financial Resources: The incumbent has input to and/or participates in preparing budgets with respect to the departmental budget. RESPONSIBILITY FOR HUMAN RESOURCES: The incumbent’s responsibility for Human Resources: The incumbent is responsible for the direct supervision of non-supervisory personnel. He/She has input into discipline, hiring or firing decisions or provides advice and guidance within the established guidelines. The incumbent directly supervises between 2 - 6 full–time employees, part-time employees, and/or volunteers. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The incumbent’s work environment is typically in an office, in the community, or at a church. The incumbent works in generally agreeable conditions, with the following exceptions: · Dealing with angry and abusive people · Verbal abuse · Work schedule affecting lifestyle The incumbent may have little to no travel required. EXPOSURE TO HAZARDS: The job incumbent may be exposed to the risk of minor harm, injury or illness due to: · Physical attacks by others (or verbal - e.g. violent/aggressive client acting out physically or verbally) · Exposure to infectious diseases · Sharp objects PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: The incumbent must take the following precautionary measures (in addition to health and safety rules): · Universal Precautions · Foodsafe Training · Non-violent crisis intervention training · Current Certification in First Aid/CPR
