100 watt Hiwatt SA212R Custom 1976. Tester's initials are DR. Probably David Reeves (see photo).
I bought this in 1977 from Kalua music in Toronto. It is labelled as Kalua #1 as it was a rental which I purchased from them after renting it for a year.
This amp is LOUD! Fortunately it has the ability to overdrive to heavy distortion levels at low volume. It feeds back nicely even at low volume.
I owned a 50 watt Bulldog and it had to be cranked to get the same level of distortion of this amp and still never sounded as good as this SA212.
Pedals in front of this beauty are a dream. Guess Gilmour and Townsend knew what they were doing.
I never gigged with this amp. It stayed at home or went to occasional jams and I treated it well but it's just too big and powerful to be of use to me at this point in my life. I have smaller amps for recording and that are easier to carry to a jam.
It has been with me for more than 40 years and it feels like I'm selling one of my kids.
Only modifications are a professionally added bias switch (which is removable see photo) to allow newer tubes to be used that cannot handle the high plate voltage like the older tubes can and I also replaced the electrical plug as the original was damaged. The rest is untouched since purchase except power tubes that occasionally needed replacement.
As a heads up there is no reverb can in this cab.
It's hard to see but in the top right corner of the face plate the Bakelite is chipped and around one of the brilliant inputs there is some slight cracking but neither affect the operation and both have been like that since I bought it.
Cabinet is hand built Russian (not 'Baltic') birch. Handles are for a Marshall 4x12 cab.
