We are a couple interested in renting a small, simple, and remote cabin for the period of one year preferably in northern Canada. The rental would take place between the late spring 2020 until late spring 2021.

Who we are: We are a couple, Jason and Olivia, living in Sweden, and aged 38 and 28. In late 2019 we will both finish our university educations, with Olivia completing her Bachelors in Data and Systems Science and Jason, his doctorate in Medical Science. After an intense period in university we both will take 1 year off before continuing on our respective career paths and are looking forward to spending some time alone in nature and outside of the busy city life. We have spent a reasonable amount of time in the “great outdoors” enjoying activities such as mountain climbing, camping, hiking, and long distance backcountry skiing in the north of Sweden every winter.

Cabin requirements: Please note that in order to post this advertisement on kijiji we were required to fill in some rental requirements attributes that are not actually important to us (number of bathrooms, a specific location, etc.). These can be ignored and, instead, all cabin requirements are below.

Location - Many people have different definitions of what a “remote” cabin is. For us it is at least 50 km from nearest house or town. This may mean that access to the cabin will only be possible by flying in, which is fine by us. Wood stove - or fireplace, but ideally wood stove, that can be used for cooking on and is large enough to keep the cabin warm during the winter months. Firewood - to be able to come to an agreement about harvesting of firewood from the surrounding forest. Water source - a lake or river large enough that water can be obtained throughout the year and that is free from any sort of industrial pollution. Other - An outhouse or permission to build one from materials on site.

Additional desired (but not required) cabin features: Furniture (bed, mattress, table, chairs), root cellar, access to a kayak/canoe/small row boat.

Things not required: running water in the cabin, electricity, cooking equipment.

Potentially you are reading this and think that you have a cabin that would be suitable but have some questions. In this case, feel free to contact us and I am sure we can answer anything that you are wondering! Looking forward to hearing from you!

Kind regards, Jason and Olivia
