This bowl was made in Fiji in the early 1970s from a tropical wood traditionally carved and used for making bowls for the ceremonial drinking of Kava Kava. This ceremonial drink is made from the Yaqona root and has recently been adopted for use by people of the west because of having many beneficial effects when regularly consumed. But back to the bowl. It’s not been used for the purpose of holding the traditional Kav Kava drink. Rather it’s been part of my own history of living and working in Fiji — an inducer of memories of paradise in the Happy Isles — as Fiji was often called by travel writers and others in the mid 20th century. The bowl is a rich deep brown in colour (the photos do not do it justice) and has sat in prominent places within the homes I’ve lived over the years. For people who have experienced the Kava Kava ceremony this is indeed a wonderful artifact and reminder of being in Fiji. Or it’s a great token to remember the warmth of the indigenous Fijian people. It’s now time for me to downsize! A great Christmas gift for someone who’s experienced Fiji. Dimensions: approximately 15 inches diameter, 5.5 inches high with 4 legs.

I may be able to deliver between Lunenburg and Bridgewater, and even to Halifax.
