Boyd's was founded by the flamboyant G.M. Lowenthal in 1984. This company was wildly popular throughout the 80's and 90's. Collectors made it a point to watch him on the shopping channel, QVC, and many bears and figurines won numerous awards during this timeframe. Loyal collectors amassed enormous amounts of Boyd's Bears and figurines during this period as well. Enesco acquired the company in 2008 and retired the line in 2014. The bears were a popular collector's item in the 1990s, and remain so now that they are no longer being produced.
