Original Canadian, Handmade, Abstract Multi-Coloured (Orange, Purple, Brown) Paper Collage Art on Wood Necklace Ornament (2” x 1.9”) with Black Nylon & Two Black Wooden Beads (13 1/2” Long) by J oan M cNeil, M.F.A., in excellent condition.
Born in Quebec, the artist received a B.A. in architecture at the University of Manitoba,Winnipeg, in 1966. Practising architecture in London, England, & Canada for about ten years, she began studying ceramics during that time. She completed a masters degree in Fine Arts at the University of Regina in 1982. She taught art and ceramics across Canada, including the Alberta College of Art and Design, Calgary, AB, & the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD), Halifax, N.S.. The artist eventually settled in Toronto. She was curator at two Saskatchewan galleries in the 1980's, & at the Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery, Waterloo, Ont. where she assembled the exhibition, 'A Question of Identity: Twelve Canadians' in 1998.
From one exhibition of her work, she describes it, “as a way of imposing order to balance the randomness of nature. It symbolizes the way we compartmentalize our activities, organize our lives, our houses, our gardens, our cities.”*
She was one of the founding members of the Saskatchewan Craft Council, Saskatoon, SK.
