Rare Primitive Quebec Rocker with Woven Bark Seat - Early 1800's

This is an outstanding rare primitive Quebec rocking chair handcrafted in the early 1800's. This rocking chair was a staple in most settler homes throughout the eastern seaboard during the 1800's. It is a ladder back, with curved flat back pieces that make it very comfortable when sitting and rocking in it. The frame is fashioned from a mixture of hardwoods that were found in the area of the settlers' homes. There is a beautiful soft patina of age on the wood surfaces. The seat is a work of art fashioned with incredible skill and artistry woven from strips of hickory bark to create a beautiful basketweave patterned very sturdy seat. The rocking chair is in beautiful condition, extremely solid and usable for everyday enjoyment. The seat is 18" wide and 16" up from the ground and the chair back is 30" high from the seat. This rare Quebec rocking chair lends itself perfectly for home or cottage decor inside or out on a covered porch. This primitive Quebec rocking chair is an outstanding example of the incredible skills of the early settlers who created by hand with simple tools and local materials these gorgeous pieces of furniture and history that are collected and treasured in modern times.
