About the Factory: Wallendorf is the name of the area where the original factory was established by J. W. Hammann and is located in Thuringia, Germany The factory was closed and reopened numerous times thru the years due to changes in ownership, political upheavals, and export restrictions. In 1764 Duke Franz Josias officially granted the concession for porcelain making to the factory at Wallendorf. The factory was sold to a syndicate headed by Christian Hutschenreuther in 1838. In 1932 after a bankruptcy, the factory was purchased by Heinz Schaubach and the Schaubach Kunst crown was introduced in the markings. The factory is still operating. Highly acclaimed artists like Kurt Steiner (1904-1970), a former teacher at the prestigious drawing school in Lichte, created chess pieces, dancers and groups of musicians or harlequins.
