History- John Stetson was an American hat manufacturer and, in the 1860s, the inventor of the cowboy hat. The company began when the founder headed west and created a Western hat that became the cornerstone of Stetson’s hat business. Stetson eventually became the world’s largest hat maker, producing more than 3,300,000 hats a year.

While panning for gold in Colorado Stetson created a rugged hat for himself made from thick beaver felt. Stetson liked the hat’s ability to protect him from the elements as well as its wide brim, high crown (to keep an insulating pocket of air on the head) and the fact that it could be used to carry water.

Condition- This ad is in excellent condition and measures 10 x 14.
